As important as it is to relax and enjoy a ride on your Harley, it’s even more important to stay safe. Motorcycle riding carries a unique risk, but a few simple precautions can make your favorite pastime much safer. Here are a few safety considerations to keep in mind when going for a cruise on your Harley-Davidson:
Wear Protective Gear
Traffic collisions are far more dangerous for motorcyclists than they are for drivers, so it is crucial to prepare for the worst by always wearing the right gear for a ride. Most important is a helmet, but other essential gear includes a riding jacket, pants, and gloves.
Stay Visible
One of the main causes behind accidents involving motorcycles is bikers’ decreased visibility to drivers due to their smaller size. To minimize the risk of being hit by an inattentive driver, wear high-visibility clothing and stay out of blind spots.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings
While you want to make sure other drivers don’t hit you, it is just as important to make sure you don’t hit anyone or anything. Use your Harley-Davidson’s lights in low-visibility situations and only ride when well rested to avoid the dangers of fatigue on the road.
Pack for Emergencies
Some of the most enjoyable rides are on winding, lonely roads away from traffic and civilization. But when you break down on these roads, you may have a hard time getting help quickly. Pack your saddlebags with basic tools, water, and supplies just in case.
Leave a Note
Another way to stay safe on long rides away from home is to make sure somebody knows where to find you if you crash or break down. Telling a friend or family member or leaving a note about your intended route is always a good decision.

Meet at Latus and we will head for the TriMet bus yard on Powell and take 'er from there. If you've never done this… it is SOOOO much fun. Afterwards, let's meet up in the parking lot of the Charthouse Restaurant and head downtown for lunch and perhaps a little shopping or looking at the holiday lights before we depart. Bring a toy for the kids!!!
